Three Years After Hearing Those Horrible Words……

It has been three years since I heard the most horrific three words “YOU HAVE CANCER”.  My world as I knew it stopped and everything became dark.

My cancerversary happens to be on May 5th also known as Cinco de Mayo.  Yes!!! A day many people celebrate, so in my mind they are also celebrating with me.  I didn’t want to write this post until I saw my doctor and had my pap test results come back.  So last week results were in and I’m a OK.

A lot has happened since that unforgettable ugly day, but I can honestly say that I’m healthier, happier and enjoying life more than before I had cancer.  So take that and shove it CANCER.  You chose the wrong DIVA this time.  I fought you, I conquered you so I’m telling you now Don’t Ever Come Back!!!

It hasn’t been an easy journey so far.  There has been many collateral damages, as I like to call them, but I think every war or battle has those.  It took me almost two years to actually realize that God gave me a

second shot at life and I had to capitalize on that fact.  Even though I was grateful for my second chance and trying to pay it forward, I lived wallowing in self pity.  I was using food as comfort and not taking care of my health, plain and simple I was sabotaging my gift of life I was given.
The light eventually came on and I saw everything clear.  I had to change my ways and make a U-turn.  I had to take control of my life and I was going to make the right decisions.  Now, it has almost been a year since I made that conscious decision and have worked very hard at it, of course I have had my good days and bad days, but never the less I’m going forward.

“Work in Progress”

Taking care of my health has been a challenge.  I have lost  weight, I eat healthier and have fallen in love with exercise.  I can’t really believe I’m saying that, but I love the way it makes me feel and I miss it when I don’t do it.  This is my new lifestyle.  I have to thank the many people that I have met along my journey who have supported me on finding the new me.  The list is too long to name them all, but be assured I’m grateful that each one of them came into my life and made a difference.

Make no mistake, I’m not finished, I just started.  My journey continues and I learn something new each day.  I can really say that I treasure every day of my life and I live by the words that someone special said to me:  “Every day is another chance to make it better.”
